Spring has finally arrived!

Spring has finally arrived and we can all start to enjoy the first flowers. These snowdrops are from one of our gardens in Ramsden where tens of thousands of snowdrops have developed into a spectacular display. This part of the garden was designed to be a wilder area without being overgrown. Left undisturbed, the snowdrops have naturalised prolifically over many years. In Summer this area becomes a wildflower meadow that attracts many species of insect, which help to feed the local wild bird population, as well as being a constant source of colour and movement. The bees pollinate the fruit trees in the orchard and meandering paths make the area a joy to be in.

New front garden in Burford

We are renovating a front garden in Burford which contained many once-beautiful but now over-grown and inter-grown conifers.  The whole space has immediately opened up to allow in more light and space.

Natural stone water feature in Twyford

We have built a fabulous natural stone water feature in Twyford.  Although it is a small garden, the scale of the stonework fits perfectly into the garden and the positioning of the cascades and planting means that it can be enjoyed equally from the kitchen window, main patio and the sun patio.  The sound and movement of the water breathes life into the garden and attracts wildlife such as birds and dragonflies.

Renovation of shrub border in Tadmarton

We are continuing our renovation of the mature shrub borders for a garden in Tadmarton.  Overgrown but worthy plants have been pruned very hard while self-set hazels, Cotoneasters and ivy have been removed.  The new replacement planting has worked very well and includes Japanese maples, flowering currants and three different varieties of hydrangea.

Planting Tulips for next Spring

There is still time to plant tulips for next year.  I think that they work best in pots and two of my favourites are Mount Tacoma and Queen of the Night.  Plant at a depth of 15cm or 6in and bring the pots out to pride of place in the Spring.

Keeping a Winter landscape

Autumn is well under way now and it is time to decide whether to cut down your perennials and leave the border bare but tidy or to leave everything standing as a refuge for over-wintering insects and a canvas for those up-coming frosts.

Grasses and late-flowering perennials

October is a wonderful month for flowering grasses such as Miscanthus and Pennisetum and for late-flowering perennials such as Asters and Aconites. Fabulous colour can now be seen on the hawthorns and June-berry.

Prairie garden near Moreton-in-Marsh

We have recently been back to see the prairie garden we built near Morton-in-Marsh three years ago. The border has established well and looks absolutely fabulous! The colours and scale suit a traditional Cotswold country house and garden and is our clients’ favourite in their extensive garden.

Large Farmhouse Kitchen Garden

This part of the garden was designed as a sun trap with maximum benefit from scent and colour. All around the garden stone paths and patios provide walkways around the garden linking the points of interest and allowing easy access.
