Our client in Adderbury fell in love with a wrought iron gazebo, but needed us to determine the optimum location for the feature in the garden and to set it into context with the rest of the garden, adapting borders accordingly. He was also in the process of purchasing a new garden building which needed to be included in the design and all the new features.
We chose a location for the gazebo which was central to the new borders and garden building and which also highlighted the view down to the church spire. We found a fish mosaic feature to be the centre point and base of the gazebo and linked the colours of the fish mosaic with the colours used in the paths sweeping to and from the gazebo, from the house out into the garden. We extended an existing border to link it to the garden building and the gazebo and completely replanted it with specimen shrubs and high impact herbaceous planting in pink, blue, silver and white. We included David Austin roses for gorgeous scent and colour and a “pathway of bulbs” which would produce early colour and later provide an access route for maintenance as it is a large border (more than 5m x 8m).
We also installed a new sweep of curb stones to prevent visitors driving on the lawn.
The client is thrilled with the result and is discussing further developments to the garden including an extensive pergola heavily surrounded by scented herbs and a natural swimming pond.
