Previously
a neglected corner of nettles and broken oddments of walling stone,
this border is at the main entrance of the farmhouse. The reclaimed
sleepers enabled us to raise the height of the border and then to
add new soil and compost. Without this new plants would have struggled
to survive in poor stony soil amongst the roots of an established
ash tree. They also provide essential edging to separate out the gravel
drive on one side and the bark path the horses use between the stables
and the paddock.
